Agartala, January 31, 2019: Refuting the allegation that State Government has stopped payments under various social pension scheme, State Social Welfare Minister Santana Chakma said, more than four lakh beneficiaries are receiving pensions in the State.
Addressing a press conference at Secretariat in Agartala today the Minister said, under 33 various social pension schemes 4 lakh 3 thousand and 831 people are getting pensions at present.
She said, in accordance with the rules, each beneficiary once in a year should appear physically in front of the concerned official for verification. As part of this, at present verification is going all over the state and 80 percent of verification task has been completed. And by February the entire process will be completed.
Santana Chakma told beneficiaries not to get panic after completion of verification as all will be back in track. The last verification was done on 2015. In three years there had been change in economic conditions of people, by verification it can be identified who really needs social pension. Already 500 beneficiaries have surrendered their social pension and 2874 beneficiaries have been found to be out of state.
The minister said, state government through verification wants to bring transparency in social pension schemes. The concerned officials are told to look that no genuine beneficiaries are unnecessarily harassed.
