Agartala, March 15, 2019: One girl student of Tripura Institute of Paramedical Sciences (TIPS) was allegedly denied permission to leave TIPS campus even after her father’s death. Later under pressure from students, TIPS authority allowed her to go to home. The action by the authority irked the TIPS students who organized protest condemning apathetic and inhuman attitude of the authory.
Rojina Begum of Kailashahar, a first-year paramedical student of TIPS, was desperately seeking permission to meet her ailing father for last few days. But, she was not allowed to go to home before her father died yesterday.
The Hostel authority, as stated by the agitating students, was asking for a local guardian showing the so called rules. In that case, the students explained that her father was suffering from ailment. Naturally, all members of her family were already distressed and facing trouble.
Rojina lost her father around 11 pm last night. It was then reported to the Management. But, the authorities concerned denied giving permission this time too with an excuse of non-availability of vehicle. She was asked to go home at the morning.
Finally, the authority confirmed the demise of Rojina’s father and under the pressure from a group of students sent her home around 3 pm in a college vehicle.
Today, a large group of students assembled at the college campus and they came in protest against the College authority.
“We generally tolerate many unusual things in the college hostel. This time the situation was different. But, the authority neither took the situation under consideration, nor allowed Rojina to go home.
She failed to meet her ailing father at the last moment just because of the apathetic attitude and foul decision of the authority. It’s a shame, indeed,” said an agitating student while seeking clarification from the management over the entire incident.
The TIPS students also outburst their anger over the pathetic condition of their hostel – they alleged that the quality of food served by the authority was very poor. Besides, poor maintenance is also a major problem in the hostel, the agitating students added.
“The Institution frequently hits the headlines for wrong reasons but the authority concerned never takes proper initiative. Whenever the students raise any issue, they are either misbehaved or threatened by the management. Many such instances are there,” a third-year student alleged.
According to sources, the Management, however, sought two days from the students and agreed to clarify the matter on Monday.
