Agartala, February 23, 2019: Inhabitants of Sabuwal village at Jampui Hill under North Tripura district are facing severe drinking water crisis for quite a long period. There is no potable water facility for around 220 families living in the village. “We suffered during Left regime and still suffering even after a change in power”, alleged one woman of the village and added, villagers expected that new BJP-IPFT government would take initiative to arrange supply of drinking water.
“Power equation in the State has changed, but nothing has changed for us – we are still without drinking water”, she alleged.
Local sources said, people of the village regularly demanded supply of drinking water during Left regime – nothing but assurance is what they had received from Leftist. After BJP-IPFT led government came into power, people, once again, hoped that their plights would soon end. A group of people of the village met the Revenue Minister NC Debbarma and urged him to ensure drinking water.
“Lack of drinking water is forcing people to consume impure water. People, especially children and elders are vulnerable to water borne diseases due to consumption of contaminated water. Like the Left regime, our plights remain unabated under saffron era”, villagers said.
Resentment and frustration among the locals are palpable. “Political leaders can only assure us and seek our votes – but not keen to address our problems”, alleged a septuagenarian
