Agartala, Jun 12, 2019: With an aim to take government facilities up to the last person in queue, Tripura Government is working on improving Public Distribution System (PDS) significantly- despite multiple constraints – financial and debt burden, lack of infrastructure etc – Tripura has reached atop among the first five states across the country with well organized Public distribution system within a short span of time. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said this after inaugurating ‘Sugar Distribution’ through PDS programme in Agartala today.
With this inauguration, total 9 lakh 11 thousand ration card holders of the State will get one kg sugar at the rate of Rs 23 per kg. Ten selected beneficiaries from 8 districts of the State received sealed pouches of Sugar during the programme. Notably, after a long wait, Sugar has been re-introduced in the PDS system for all the priority groups. Earlier, only the ration cards under ‘Antyodaya’ scheme were provided Sugar.
“As part of the improvement of PDS, the State Government has planned to introduce more products to be sold through Fair Price Shops so that every citizen can avail products of wider range”, Biplab Kumar Deb said and added, “We are planning to add up new products in the list of subsidized distribution. Already the government has sent proposals to the Rajasthan government for supply of mustard and if everything falls in the right direction, soon edible oil will be introduced in the rationing system”. In the city centric rations shops, there are plan to introduce grocery items lice incense sticks, detergents, soaps etc., he asserted.
