December 28, 2018: In another first, ONGC provides the first solar-powered drinking facility to a school in the state. ONGC Tripura Asset through its Corporates Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative handed over a Solar Powered Drinking Water, Hygienic sanitation and access to Light project to the School authority of Narangbari SB School at Baramura area today.
ED-Asset Manager Mr. G.K. Singha Roy,along with the the senior executives of ONGC tripura Asset, Head Master and other teachers of the school, inaugurated the unique initiative of the Maharatna company in the school situated at the remotest corner of North Eastern state.
In his brief but compact speechMr. Singha Roy said that this is the first solar powered water project in schools of remote areas of Tripura and another ten projects of similar kind are in pipe line. With this innovative technology it would simultaneously deliver safe drinking water to the students and teachers and also deliver running water in the school wash room.
Dr. U.K.Pandey,GM (HR) – Asset Support Manager,who played the key role in implementing the project, said that, a large number of Schools located in remote areas of Tripura do not have access to safe drinking water. Even the schools do not have any running water in the wash rooms.
The Head Master of the School also appreciated the efforts made by ONGC and also opined that due to this water facility girl students dropout will be less.
This is the first in its kind of solar powered drinking water system in School of Tripura. The main objective of this project is to provide safe drinking water, hygienic sanitation and access to light through solar power where conventional electricity is not available.
