Agartala, April 09, 2019: A severe Nor’wester storm raged through Sonamura under Sepahijala district in Tripura today evening. The storm brought normal life to a grinding halt and left behind a long trail of destruction, however there is no report of death so far. Large number of houses were badly damaged leaving many people homeless, trees and electric poles were uprooted. Power supply services have severely been hit and affected areas have plummeted into darkness. The situation is such that there is, practically, no possibility of restoring power supply any time soon.
Local sources said, the storm lasted for around 15-20 minutes but triggered huge destruction. Plight of people has further been intensified as the administration is busy with election process and most of the vehicles – which were engaged in poll duties by the administration – are off the road. As per available information, affected families have not, so fStar, taken shelter at relief camps. With more rains are on the card, people in Sonamura area are living in constant fear of further losses.
