Agartala, April 05, 2019: Government of India has agreed to set up two more Border Haats at Ragna (Dharma nagar) and Kamalpur on India- Bangladesh border to boost the trade. This decision is taken in the meeting chaired by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce in New Delhi on 3rd April 2019.
At present, there are two border Haats working in Kamalasagar in West Tripura district and Srinagar in South Tripura district. In last one year, two border Haats saw trade of about ₹ 1.8 crores across the border by the local vendors. Only those vendors who fall within 5 KMs from the border can sale their items in the border Haats.
Due to increasing demand and popularity of the border Haats, Government of Tripura has placed the demand for establishing border Haats at Ragna near Dharmanagar, Hiracherra near Kailashahar, Kamalpur, Bamutia, Ekinpur, Boxnagar, Hrishyamukh and Rishyabari. Meeting at New Delhi was attended by Kiran Gitte, Director Industries.
Out of these, two border Haats at Ragna and Kamalpur are agreed by the Government of India and they have sought NOC from the Government of Bangladesh. Land has been identified at both the locations and the work will start on receiving the NOC. It may be noted that the Indian Delegation is planning to visit Bangladesh in third week of April to conduct detail discussions in this regards.
Similar border Haats are also proposed in the states of Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram to boost the trade between the neighbouring countries.
