Agartala, April 28, 2019: Two persons including one Police Constable were arrested today in connection with spreading unverified information in social media. Prompt actions and arrests of two accused persons by State Police reflects State Government’s resolve not to spare people who are indulged in spreading unverified and malicious information.
Two persons – Saikat Talapatra and Police constable Jamal Hussain were picked up from Agartala airport and Dharmanagar under North Tripura during last 48 hours and booked for spreading false information about personal life of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Talapatra was picked up by Police from Agartala MBB airport while he was trying to leave Agartala. Earlier, Dharmanagar Police arrested Jamal.
It may be noted, Police have already booked one Anupam Paul for spreading fake information about a “divorce suit” filed against Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb by his wife Niti Deb. Meanwhile, a complaint against Anupam Paul of Jatanbari was lodged by a local TV channel alleging that Anupam mentioned himself in his social media profile as a former reporter of the news channel, even though the person was not associated with the concerned TV channel.
In the wake of spreading false information in social media involving Chief Minister’s family, the State Administration has come up strongly sending a laud and unambiguous message to all who are involved in spreading unverified, malicious and distorted information.
The arrests have already caused tremor among people indulged in posting disgraceful and derogative posts including false and misleading information – such trend must be reined in decisively, informed sources said.
