Agartala, Jun 19, 2019: Police today arrested Sourabh Debnath (19) and Dibakar Das (20) in connection with the murder case of six year old girl child in Dharmanagar under North Tripura – within a day after the horrific incident came to light. Irate mob vandalized and set house of Sourabh Debnath ablaze. A Scooty was also seized from the possession of Dibakar which was learnt to have used during the crime.
Led by SP of North Tripura district Bhanupada Chakraborty, Police of Dharmanagar swung into action and within a day after the crime was committed, picked up the two – Sourabh and Dibakar.
Both the accused were, later, produced before the districts session Court seeking a seven day police remand. The court pronounced three day police custody and directed to produce them once again on June 21 next.
SDPO Dharamanagar Rajeev Sutradhar while speaking to the media said, “We have produced both the accused in the district session court seeking seven day police custody today. But, the district session judge granted 3-day police remand, they will be once again produced before the Court on June 21 next.”
Meanwhile, an agitated mob barged into the residence of Sourabh Debnath, vandalized and set it on fire. Reportedly, the victim girl used to stay at Sourabh’s house as tenant. And, Sourabh had tricked the girl and took her to the crime scene along with his friend Dibakar Das.
According to the SI Ratan Rabi Das of Dharmanagar Police Station, police were informed by the locals that mob, in the fit of rage, ransacked the residence of Sourabh, one of the accused in the baby girl murder case. After damaging properties, the mob set the house ablaze. The house was reduced to ashes within an hour. Police and TSR teams were sent bring the situation under control, Ratan Rabi Das said.
A team of BJP Mohila Morcha rushed to the victim’s house and met the family members, later the delegation went to the SDPO office. The Morcha leaders demanded exemplary punishment for the predators at the earliest.
