September 04, 2018: Agar trees can open a new horizon of earning to people of the State as the Forest department has taken initiative to utilize Agar trees for producing incenses using modern techniques. Besides, creating Tripura a green state is also a Mission. The Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said this today after planting Agar saplings as part of Van Mahoutsav organized by the Forest Department.
Speaking to media, he said, tradition of worshiping trees could be traced back to ancient times in Indian civilization. The tradition indicates that human being has a deep bonding with trees. The same tradition is even continuing in present days.
He said, “Presently people in many countries worship trees, but the tree worshiping practices started in India long ago – in ancient times”. He also said, in today’s programme, saplings of Agar tree were planted. Agar trees provides people of the State an opportunity to earn livelihood – in fact, there are many Agar trees in North district and people are earning economic benefits, he said and added, the State Forest Department is planning to adopt modern techniques for making Agar tree and its produces commercially more lucrative and viable.
Among others, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varman, Revenue Minister N C Debbarma, Forest Minister Mebar Kumar Jamatia and Chief Secretary Sanjib Ranjan also planted saplings in the programme. Top officials of the Forest Department were also present.
