Agartala, June 23, 2019: Police arrested two persons and seized 35 thousand YaBa tablets of worth Rs 1.5 crore from a 6-wheel truck at Jherjheri Check Point under Kadamtali PS along the alternative NH in North Tripura at the wee hours of Sunday.
Sources said, a 6-wheel gas cylinder carrying truck (TR01 AH – 1910) was entering into State along the alternative NH and Police stopped the truck at Jherjheri. Constable Bijan Chakraborty accompanied by SPO Gopika Mishra and two TSR jawans searched the truck.
During searching, Police found 35 thousand YaBa tablets kept in hidden boxes. Sensing the inevitable, driver and his assistant tried to flee – but Police caught the duo and seized the YaBa tablets. Police sources said, market value of seized YaBa is around Rs 1.5 crore.
The arrested duo were identified as Jamir Uddin and Badrul Haque. Both hail from Loharpara under Nilam Bazar PS in Karimganj, Assam.
It is learnt, arrested Jamir and Badrul said that they were driving to Teliamura under Khowai, Tripura with Gas cylinders from Silchar, Assam.
Jamir claimed that ‘someone’, at Patharkandi in Assam, put YaBa tablets on the Truck and in return, assured him to pay Rs 10,000. Jamir, however, claimed that he had no idea as to where to offload tablets. Police are interrogating the arrested persons will produce them before the Court tomorrow.
Speaking to media, SP of North Bhanupada Chakraborty said, Police will continue its drive against drug and contraband smuggling as per Tripura Chief Minister’s call to make Tripura an addiction free State.
