Agartala, June 27, 2019: Tripura’s Chess prodigy Arshiya Das, who represented India in Asian School Chess Championship in Uzbekistan, has secured Gold medal in the blitz section and Bronze in classical.

Arshiya came out with flying colors and wrapped her participation in the Asian School Chess championship by winning the gold medal in blitz section with overall 3 minutes time. In a superb show of sterling chess skills, the Tripura girl overcame all the opponents, leaving the second place in this section to be picked up by fellow Indian Kukreja Suguna.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar among many other persons congratulated Arshiya, the pride of Tripura, for her achievement in the competition.
The Chief Minister in his official tweet handler said: “Congratulations Arshiya for winning Bronze Medal (under-9 girls category) in Asian School Chess Championship- 2019 organized at Uzbekistan.
You are a pride of our state and I wish you all the best for your brilliant future.”
Earlier in the classical time control competition in Asian School Chess, Arshiya had secured the bronze medal because of early setbacks against higher ranked players but impressed the chess buffs who witnessed the highly competitive tournament. The Asian School Chess championship at Tashkhent in Uzbekistan had commenced with the Indian outfit reaching the city at 4-00 in the morning and embarking on tournament play within a few hours virtually without rest. Nevertheless, Arshiya had secured a creditable fourth position in the rapid chess in which she otherwise is an acknowledged expert.
Arshiya’s father Purnendu Das, an employee of the BSNL, said that Arshiya could have performed even better by winning the rapid and classical time control contests also. But the fourth position in rapid, bronze medal in classical and gold in the blitz constitute a remarkable performance by the prodigious Tripura girl. Arshiya, accompanied by her mother Arnisha, is set to return to Agartala on Saturday morning.
