October 26, 2018: Paving way for improving roadways as well as setting up waterways, Chief Minister Biplab Deb held discussions with the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping today in New Delhi.
Sources said, the Union Government has accepted the State Government’s proposal to sanction the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for NH 44A (Manu-Shimlung) and NH-208 (Kailashahar-Teliamura). The DPRs were sanctioned after a meeting between Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today in New Delhi. On existing National Highways, Gadkari also assured Deb and said, the maintenance works for the National Highways in the state shall be expedited and the same shall undertaken by State Public Works Department (PWD) in coordination with NHIDCL.
During the meeting, Deb and Gadkari took decision on undertaking 35km of dredging work for making the waterway between the Meghna river and Gomati River can operational. Once the waterway becomes operational, Tripura would get a major boost in emerging as a new gateway for entire North East.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also held a series of meetings with senior Ministers and officials of various Ministries and Departments during his day long Delhi visit. Chief Minister held meetings with Union Minister of Railways and Coal, Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Ram Vilas Paswan and Union Minister of State for Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore. Deb also held meetings with officials of NBCC and Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
