There are adequate stock of fuel and other essentials in Tripura even as the rail services have been seriously impacted owing to Cyclone Remal induced rains and landslides, said Tripura’s Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Sushanta Chowdhury in Agartala on Thursday.
Train services between Agartala and Lamding remain suspended today also due to waterlogging and a minor landslide near Badarpur, impacting movement of essential goods and long-distance travel. However, the Tripura government has assured residents that there is no need to panic, as the State has stocks of fuel, food grains, and other essentials are available, the Minister asserted.
Chowdhury made the assertion during his visit to flour mills in Agartala on Thursday to ensure the continued supply of quality food items. While acknowledging the disruption in train services caused by the damaged tracks, he emphasized that the state has ample reserves of essential commodities.
“Long queues might be seen at petrol pumps due to the temporary halt in train services, but there is absolutely no shortage of fuel or other essentials,” Minister Chowdhury told the media.
“Repair work on the affected section is underway, and we expect train services to resume within the next 2-3 days.”
Meantime, the disruption has led to the cancellation of four long-distance passenger trains originating from Agartala today, including the Kanchenjunga, LTT, Tripura Sundari, and Agartala Guwahati Special.
Agartala railway station master Chandramohan Sahu confirmed that restoration efforts are in progress to clear the tracks in the New Haflong area. However, he cautioned that heavy rains in the hills could delay the complete resumption of services.
While travel plans might be affected in the short term, the Tripura government’s assurances aim to alleviate concerns about essential supplies.
