Agartala. Mar 31: A felicitation ceremony was organized on Monday by Sector 21 Assam Rifles to honor the representatives of the Tripura team, which secured second place in the Assam Rifles Women’s Sentinels Cup Football Tournament held in Lokra, Assam.
The Assam Rifles Sentinel Cup Football Tournament was held this year from the 12th to the 28th of this month. Matches for both the boys’ and girls’ categories took place, with the boys’ matches held in Dimapur, Nagaland, and the women’s matches in Lokra, Assam. However, the final match was played in Shillong, Meghalaya.
Footballers from the state participated in both the men’s and women’s categories of the tournament. In the boys’ category, Tripura was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
In the women’s category, the state’s girls narrowly missed out on the top honor. Remaining undefeated throughout the tournament and reaching the final, the women’s team ultimately lost in the decisive match, securing second place and won the silver medal and a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Returning home with the runners-up title, the state’s girls were now overwhelmed with felicitations.
On Monday, the women’s team was honored at a ceremony held at Assam Rifles Sector 21 on Cantonment Road in Agartala. The chief guest at this felicitation event was Tinku Roy, the State Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports.

Also present were Pranab Sarkar, president of the Tripura Football Association, Joint Secretary Krishnapada Sarkar, and senior officials of Assam Rifles. During the event, the successful women footballers were felicitated.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Sports Minister highlighted the overall state of sports infrastructure in Tripura and congratulated the women footballers for their remarkable success outside the state.
Later in a social media post, the Minister said, “Their hard work, unity, and boundless enthusiasm serve as an inspiration to us all. Heartfelt congratulations to these talented players – may they achieve even greater success in the future and further brighten Tripura’s pride”.
