The Tripura unit of Samyukta Kishan Morcha held a rally and public meeting in support of 10-point demand in Agartala on Friday. Addressing the gathering, leaders slammed the ruling BJP governments in the State as well as the centre. Leaders appealed to the people to be united and organize agitations at the block level.
Among others CPM Politburo member and Leader of the Opposition Manik Sarkar, State secretary of CPM Jitendra Chowdhury, president of the All India Krishak Sabha Ashok Dhawale, Krishak leader of the State Pabitra Kar and others addressed the gathering.
Ashok Dhawale in his speech explained different aspects of the farmers’ agitation on Delhi border. He also highlighted several problems that the farmers of the country are facing.
In his speech, Manik Sarkar criticized the State government and delivered on the emerging political situation of the State. He urged the supporters to be united and continue struggle for the welfare of Krishak, Jhumiya (Shifting cultivators) and Khet Mazdoor.
“From the rally and public meeting in which supporters of the party have assembled from different parts of the State, you have to go back to your village and organize the farmers, Jhumiya and Khet Mazdoor. It is important to conduct strong protest programmes at the block level”, Sarkar said.
Jitendra Chowdhury blamed the BJP-led government in Tripura for ‘exploiting’ and ‘oppressing’ people during the last 45 months after assuming power. Besides, he also reiterated the demand to transfer more power to the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) for holistic development of the Janajati people of the State.
“Lofty promises like employment of 50000 youths per year, formation of Tipra Land and Greater Tipra Land were made”, he said and added promise for employment has become an illusion.
In TTAADC area, poor jhumiyas are facing acute food crisis while grand Musical night with the Mumbai based singers was held spending lakhs of rupees, he said.
