Tripura, rich in medium quality tea, has begun to impart training to its thousands small tea growers in tea processing with hand-made techniques.
Under the technical assistance from Tea Board, India one such the training camp was organised at the Durgabari Tea Estate, run by a profit making labourers’ cooperative society on Monday. In the training camp 43 small tea growers from Jamui hills, Unokoti under Northern sector, Gandacherra in Dhalai sector and Mandwi and western sector of the State received training to produce tea granules.
Delighted over the so handy techniques of production Nepal Das, a grower from Gandacherra said it would cost only Rs. 350 per kilo whereas the market sale price standing at Rs. 700-800. Some of them were found optimistic to set up processing centre of small size. The training was given by internationally famous Buddhadeb Acharya.
