Chaos and resentment hit the GB Hospital in Agartala after a 3-day old new born baby died on Wednesday in a tragic incident while undergoing test for Coronavirus. Parents of the baby boy alleged blood was oozing out of the baby’s nose after the Covid19 test and later, started bleeding profusely.
“Soon the baby died due to the complexities developed during sample collection”, father of the baby, Diptanu Saha alleged and accused the health professionals of ‘utter’ negligence.
Sources said, the mother – a Covid positive patient – was brought to GBP hospital from a Covid Care Center on Friday last as her date of delivery came closer. On Monday she delivered a baby boy.
Briefing the media, Diptanu Saha alleged, “My new born son died because of sheer negligence of the health professionals. They failed to collect the samples properly causing the death of my child”. Once relatives of the baby reached the hospital, situation turned chaotic. The family members also sat on a short-lived Dharna in front of the hospital premises seeking justice.
Even as no health department official could be found to comment on the issue despite repeated attempts, it is learnt the health department had ordered a post mortem to ascertain the cause of the death and convinced the family of justice. The mother was sent back to Covid care centre for her treatment.
