Agartala, February 26, 2020: Tripura is one of the six States that bagged ‘Light House’ project and State government is working for setting up the project, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said this today. He said this while inaugurating 12-day long 38th Agartala Book Fair at Hapania International Fair ground in Agartala.
Among others, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma, Revenue Minister N.C. Debbarma, Education Minister Ratanlal Nath, AMC Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, MLAs Ram Prasad Paul and Mimi Majumder, and officials of ICA department were present in the inaugural session.
What is Light House Project
It aims to transform the eco-system of housing construction sector in the country through lighthouse projects built using advanced proven technologies. It will foster the development of domestic technological research, and building platforms for knowledge sharing and networking across the sector.
“Six states in the entire country got Light House project. Tripura is one of the six states and only state in the North East to get this project. This project comprising 1000 flats will come up at Ramnagar in Agartala. Fifty percent of the flats will be allotted to needy people with subsidies from State and central governments,” the Chief Minister said.
As per the Government website (GHTC-India), beneficiary’s selection for houses constructed under Light House Project will be done by States in accordance with the guidelines of PMAY(U). Five other States are Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
A PIB press release (Feb 11, 2019) said, The States/ UTs will receive Central Assistance to construct these projects as per PMAY (U) guidelines. In addition to this, a Technology Innovation Grant (TIG) for the States/ UTs is provisioned to offset the impact of any additional cost implication due to the use of new technology and to absorb the issues related to economies of scale and other related factors. The selected sites for lighthouse projects will be used as an ‘open laboratory’ for live demonstration and will receive due attention from academia (Civil Engineering, Planning, Architecture), practitioners (Public/ Private), policy makers (Central/ State) and media apart from felicitation/ recognition in Grand Expo-cum-Conference.
Speaking on Book Fair
Addressing the book lovers assembled at Book Fair inauguration programme, Biplab Kumar Deb said that over 3,000 artists, singers, performers from Bangladesh and Tripura would perform in various cultural events to be held on each day of the fair. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government had introduced several awards — Atal Bihari Vajpayee Lifetime Achievements in combined feats, and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Integration Award for outstanding contribution in the field of social service.
Over 700 poets coming from more than 12 linguistic backgrounds will recite their poems at the book fair.
Biplab Kumar Deb also mentioned that connectivity – both rail and air – had been harnessed after BJP-led Government assumed power in Tripura. On job creation, Deb reiterated his government’s commitment to set up an IT Hub in Agartala.
