Agartala, Aug 23, 2019: With almost saturated service sector, banks are now eyeing to new avenues for credit expansion and focusing on exports of pineapple, lemon, setting up food processing centers, Rubber-based industries etc. Officials of State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) said this after a two-day long ideation exercise, which was concluded at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala today. The objective of the workshop was to align the State priorities with the Banking business for realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making the country a $5 trillion economy.
In the ideation exercise, officials of 18 Public Sector Banks working in the State took part and discussed challenges, collected suggestions and chalked out Action Plans. The suggestions emerged during discussions will be forwarded to United Bank of India Head Office which is the SLBC Convener of the State for onward submission in the national level discussions.
The workshop held under the aegis of SLBC, Tripura and was convened by A.K. Das, Executive Director, United Bank of India. V Gandotra, General Manager HR and G P Sharma, Field GM for North-East, United Bank of India also graced this occasion.
D Gupta, General Manager, State Bank of India and other senior officials from all public sector Banks participated in this two-day deliberation exercise. Manoj Kumar, Addl Chief Secretary, Govt of Tripura was the Chief Guest in the meeting, who highlighted the assembled Bankers on the vision of the State Govt and also pointed out the areas where Banks have the scope of contribution.
P.K. Mohapatra, DGM NABARD mentioned the potentials where all the stake holders including Banks should work together for the growth of the State Agriculture Sector with specific thrust on KCC Saturation.
Representatives from CII and Industry Owners Association also expressed their aspirations from the banking sector. Experts focused on total nine themes including Credit to agriculture, MSME lending, Export credit etc.
Highly placed sources said, officials discussed potentiality of growth of pineapple and lemon export and provide export credit in this – also, suggestions came up to consider food processing units and set ups for value addition and improving quality of Rubber produced in the State.
