The Tripura government has decided to enforce complete lockdown in bordering areas of the state to contain spread of Covid19, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said.
At the same time, the state government has also restricted official meetings and mass seminars with more than 20 participants, he added.
Nath announcing the new guidelines of the restrictions to be followed in the areas has said, “the lockdown will continue for one week and further next orders all the restrictions imposed has to be followed strictly”.
According to the order issued by Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar , “’total lockdown’ within the 1 Km of border in rural areas and 0.5 km in municipal areas from international borders of the state of Tripura for 7 days with effect from 7 AM of 17th July, 2020 Friday has been enforced”.
According to the order copy, all business organizations, commercial activities, movement of individuals, offices, public transport, and other such activities had been banned for the stipulated period. Emergency services were kept out of the purview of the lockdown restrictions.
Justifying the imposition of restrictions, the order reads, “it has come to the notice of the state government that there is some spread of Covid 19 in the border areas of the state which has posed as a major threat to Public health, hygiene and safety of the people. It is also felt that unless stringent measures are put in place to contain the spread of the pandemic, there is chance of large scale spread of Covid 19 in the population which is likely to cause loss of human lives”.
In a separate order restrictions were imposed on mass gatherings and seminars of any government department which require the presence of more than 20 participants. The order also limited footfalls of visitors in the offices without prior appointments. Moreover, no gatherings were allowed in any of the halls—Agartala Town hall, Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Pragna Bhavan etc. Besides, wearing of face masks had been made mandatory.
