April 12, 2018: State Cabinet today has decided to set up an IIIT at Bodhjungnagar near Agartala on 52.08 acre land. Session will commence from June-July this year and initially NIT campus in Agartala will be used.
“A total of Rs. 128 crore will be spent for the proposed IIIT. The Central and State Government along with ONGC, NEEPCO and other private organization will finance the project. Centre will provide Rs. 73.60 crore, state government will give 44.80 crore, ONGC has sanctioned Rs. 2.67 crore, NEEPCO has offered Rs. 55 lakh and another private organization is expected to provide Rs. 9.60 crore. Besides, the state government will also bear the deficit amount of Rs. 5.82 lakh,” the Education minister said after the cabinet meeting.
According to Nath, the session for the proposed IIIT for the Academic year 2018-19 will start at NIT Agartala campus in June-July this year.
The cabinet also decided to constitute a Trust headed by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb (chairman) for smooth management of Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur.
