March 16, 2018: The financial health of the State is in deplorable condition because of falling revenue collection coupled with increasing expenditure, said Tourism, Transport and Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy today after State Cabinet meeting. To overcome the financial weakness, the state government would focus on judicious expenditure and push on revenue collection as well as stress on job creation, Singha Roy commented.
Speaking to media, the Minister said, “During 2017-18 Financial Year, receipts were pegged at appr. Rs 12708.81 cr while revenue was estimated at appr. Rs 14297.00 cr, leaving a deficit of Rs 1588.19 cr.” He also said, Finance secretary has been ordered to prepare a report detailing prevailing financial status of different sectors within couple of days.
On mounting deficit, Singha Roy said, revenue collection vis-a-vis expenditure is showing continuous fall. The expenditure was mounting every year, tax revenue and non-tax revenue of the State remained almost stagnant.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also decided to appoint senior advocate Arun Kanti Bhowmik as the next Advocate General of the State.
