Chaos broke out in TNGCL office as contractual employees staged agitation over payment issues. One TNGCL official was assaulted and was hospitalized.

Agartala, December 03, 2019: Chaos and trouble broke out in Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) Office at Gurkhabasti in Agartala today. A TNGCL official was hospitalized after being assaulted by a group of employees during an agitation at Gurkhabasti office today.
The injured official- Joydeep Chowdhury, a senior manager of TNGCL, was taken to a hospital soon after the incident.
According to reports, a large group of contractual employees of TNGCL today staged agitation protesting against alleged apathy of authorities in fulfilling their payment and duty related demands.
The TNGCL authorities, as informed by the agitators, didn’t show any interest to meet the demands of contractual staff even after several requests. An agitating contractual employee alleged that the authority was continuing to harass the employees since their cease work agitation in recent past.
“The TNGCL authority had promised to fulfill our demands during recent cease work agitation. But there was no positive response till today rather we were facing more harassment,” he said.
A meeting between the TNGCL staff and officials was supposed to be held today but the authority concerned
boycotted the meeting when some of the contractual staff reached Gurkhabasti.
As a result, a section of the employees present in the scene started protesting over the apathy of officials concerned.
Meanwhile, the TNGCL official- Joydeep Chowdhury was attacked during the chaos and he sustained serious injuries.
Finally, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. On the other hand, the TNGCL authorities made it clear that the employees were hired by an outsourced agency and they were not responsible for payment or termination of the employees.
When contacted, SDPO Sadar Dhruba Nath said that a case was registered in connection with the assault on TNGCL official and the matter was under investigation.
