March 23, 2018: Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura Ajay Rastogi on Friday stressed on the protection of rights of citizens and expressed concern over the shortage of judges and poor infrastructure in some judicial institutions. He was speaking at a programme held to celebrate the 5th Foundation Day of the High Court of Tripura today.
The Governor Tathagata Roy inaugurated the ceremony in presence of the Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Justice Subhasis Talapatra, newly-appointed Advocate General A.K. Bhowmik, Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan and DGP A.K. Shukla and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the ceremony Chief Justice Ajay Rastogi said, “We are facing shortage of judges. Presently, only two judges including me are working there in the High Court of Tripura. We need a number of judges for speedy delivery of justice and reducing the pendency of cases.” Upholding significance of citizens’ rights, he said, “It is important to look back at the achievements of last five years and prepare plan for future.” Even though the High Court of Tripura achieved several successes, it has still miles to go, he said.
The Governor Tathagata Roy said, “Law is getting very complicated and specialized day by day.” He also laid importance on specializations of the advocates.
“An independent, impartial and courageous judiciary is need of the hour for delivering justice to all”, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and added, “The state government believes in the values of the Rule of Law and we are committed to create such environment. I assure, the state government will maintain highest regards and faith in the judiciary,”
Appreciating the role of the High Court of Tripura, he expressed hope that the spirit would remain the same in the days to come.”
Justice Subhasis Talapatra said, “The High Court of Tripura has lost collegiality which is an important part in running an institution. We don’t have proper bench too. I hope, the High Court of Tripura will get its collegiality back soon.” He also highlighted the journey of the High Court of Tripura.
