June 12, 2018: The Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb made a significant announcement of renaming the Tripura State Agriculture Department to Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department today during the foundation stone laying ceremony program of a Center of Excellence for Vegetables in South Tripura District today. The CM stated that this change in the name of the Ministry shows the underlying commitment of his Government towards the prosperity and progress of farmers of the state of Tripura.

The Chief Minister Biplab Deb laid the foundation stone for the Center of Excellence for Vegetables in Birchandra Manu in South Tripura District today. He detailed on efforts made by the State Government for ensuring farmers’ welfare in the state.
Talking about the measures taken in this direction, Deb referred to the flagging off of a consignment of Queen Pineapples by him last week for export to Dubai. For the first time ever such consignment was sent for export from the state. He informed the members present in the audience that the State Government ensured that the pineapples growers received double the price which they were currently getting from the local markets.
Speaking about the importance of the Center of Excellence for Vegetables for which he laid the foundation stone today, the Chief Minister said that the research undertaken in this Center shall help in promotion of scientific techniques for undertaking agricultural activities which shall give a further boost to both the crop yield and agricultural incomes for the farmers in the state of Tripura which is an integral part of his vision for Transforming Tripura.
In another program organized at Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur under Gomati district, Biplab Kumar Deb distributed various agricultural related benefits such as power tillers, piglets, hybrid paddy seeds, Kisan Credit Cards, Loan Sanction letters etc. to farmers today.
While addressing the beneficiaries, the Chief Minister stated that there was a firm commitment of his Government towards attainment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Doubling Farmers’ Income by the year 2022.
During these programs, Pranajit Singha Roy, the Agriculture Minister, MLA Pramode Reang, Principal Secretary Dr. U Venkateswarlu and others were also present along with the Chief Minister.
