June 03, 2018: The Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb flagged off a consignment of 1000 kg “Queen Pineapple” today at the Horticulture Research Centre, Nagicherra, near Agartala for being exported abroad to Dubai.
The pineapples were procured by the Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited (THCL), a Government of Tripura undertaking from farmers of remote Rangichera village of Kamalpur Subdivision of Dhalai District. The THCL has bought these pineapples at rates over and above the existing market rates in Tripura. The trans-shipment is being done by the Air-Cargo for which the State Government had recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Spicejet Airlines.
Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minister mentioned that the first consignment being exported is just the beginning and the State Government will make all the efforts to further enhance the income of the poor and tribal farmers of the State within short period of time by promoting production of Pineapple and Bamboo in the State of Tripura.
He said that this is one step further towards achievement of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream to reform the eight North-Eastern states into ‘Ashta Laxmi’ by making them economically self sufficient and engines of growth in near future. He also asserted that Prime Minister’s Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of doubling the income of farmers by the year 2022 is an integral part of his Government’s vision of ‘Transforming Tripura’.
The Chief Minister congratulated State Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and the Agriculture Department for their efforts. He made an appeal to all the farmers of Tripura to boost the production of pineapples and bamboo on their farmlands. He assured full support of the State Government for the growth of Pine Apple and Bamboo sector in the State.
Apart from Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Dr. U. Venkateshwarlu, IAS, In-Charge Chief Secretary of Tripura and other officers of Agriculture Department were present on this occasion.
