Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha seeks AIIMS support to boost healthcare infrastructure, telemedicine, and super-specialty services at AGMC and GBP Hospital, emphasizing state’s commitment to modern, accessible medical care.
Agartala (Tripura), June 7: In a major push toward transforming healthcare services in Tripura, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha reiterated the state government’s firm commitment to providing advanced and accessible medical care to its citizens.
Emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development and telemedicine, the Chief Minister called for strategic support from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, to improve health services and capacity-building across Tripura.
Addressing a high-level meeting held at the conference hall of the Tripura Institution for Transformation at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Lane, the Chief Minister engaged in an in-depth discussion with a visiting delegation of AIIMS doctors.
The team, led by AIIMS Director Professor (Dr.) M. Srinivas, included noted medical experts Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, Dr. Lakshmitej Undavalli, and Dr. Aruna Kumari.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s prioritization of enhancing treatment facilities and infrastructure, particularly at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital.
He emphasized the growing relevance of telemedicine services in modern healthcare and outlined the state’s intent to implement tele-education and tele-consultation to bridge service gaps in remote areas.
Dr Manik Saha appealed to AIIMS Director Dr. Srinivas to extend expert guidance and necessary technical assistance in improving the quality and reach of medical services at AGMC and GBP Hospital.
“With AIIMS’ cooperation, we aim to strengthen both healthcare delivery and infrastructure, making high-quality treatment more accessible to people across Tripura,” he noted.
Later, in social media post, Dr Saha reiterated, “The state government is committed to providing the best possible healthcare services to its citizens”.
He wrote, “In a significant meeting aimed at improving patient care services at the state’s premier hospitals—Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital—I presided over discussions with a visiting delegation from AIIMS, New Delhi.
The meeting, held at the TIFT conference hall, was attended by the delegation led by AIIMS Director Professor M. Srinivas, along with senior officials from the state government and representatives of the concerned hospitals”.
In the meeting with AIIMS delegation, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte presented a detailed overview of the state’s current healthcare landscape and ongoing development efforts.
He informed the delegation about key initiatives aimed at enhancing medical services, expanding capacity, and modernizing healthcare infrastructure.

The meeting also included a comprehensive review of ongoing projects and the present status of healthcare education and services at AGMC and GBP Hospital.

Officials shared insights into patient care delivery mechanisms and challenges faced by medical institutions in the state.
AIIMS Director Dr. Srinivas outlined the institution’s approach to offering support in key areas including the development of super-specialty services, implementation of paperless and IT-integrated hospital systems, strengthening hospital administration, emergency medical response capabilities, and workforce training.
He emphasized that a modern, responsive, and technology-driven health system is the need of the hour, and AIIMS is ready to assist Tripura in achieving these objectives.

The meeting was attended by several senior officials and dignitaries including MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, who also serves as Chairperson of the Patient Welfare Committee of AGMC and GBP Hospital; Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister; Dr. Tapan Majumdar, Director of Health Services; Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital; Professor (Dr.) Anup Saha, Principal of AGMC; former Director of Health Services Professor (Dr.) Sanjib Debbarma; along with doctors from various departments and administrative officers.
