April 10, 2018: The Central Government has decided to convert Agartala-Sabroom National Highway into four lanes – in the wake of such decision, it is imperative to consider widening of bridges over Gomati and Muhuri River accordingly. The Chief Minister Biplab Deb said this today while chairing a review meeting on NH renovation and construction of bridges on Gomati and Muhuri Rivers. He also emphasized on beautification of both sides of NH keeping symmetry with traditional culture of the Tribal people.
“Unless bridges are widened keeping symmetry with four-lane roads, transportation will be hampered”, he said and directed the PWD Officials to inquire if double-lane roads could be widened into four lanes.
He also asked the concerned officials to launch beautification drive and focus on showcasing tribal culture – like setting up cottages – along the NH in tribal dominated areas. He also ordered the PWD to utilize government land wherever available along the road for tourism etc.
