April 20, 2018: In his third Delhi visit after assuming Office in March, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb took initiatives on multiple issues including filling up 12,222 vacant posts and fulfilling other pre-poll promises.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, in New Delhi on Friday and stressed on granting one-time relaxation in educational and professional qualifications of the teachers During the meeting, the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister was told that 12,222 posts of teachers were lying vacant in Tripura.
The Chief Minister requested the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to grant one time relaxation in academic and professional qualifications of the teachers laid down by NCTE, so that the vacancies of teachers can be filled up on relaxed norms. In the meeting, the Chief Minister also sought additional financial support from the Centre to full-fill the poll promises.
“Fulfillment of poll promises is impossible without additional financial support from the central government — the state government is going through a very difficult financial position,” Biplab told the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister.
Among other issues, the Chief Minister demanded setting up of Central Agricultural University in the state.
“Tripura is an agrarian economy, with about 50% population dependent on agriculture. Setting up of a Central Agriculture University will greatly help in developing the agriculture and allied sector. The basic building blocks for the proposed University exist in Tripura. The state government is committed to provide all possible support in this regard,” Chief Minister told the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister.
To boost the healthcare sector, the Chief Minster made an appeal for setting up of an AIIMS-like Institution in Tripura. He highlighted that the entire North Eastern Region including Tripura lacks in specialized healthcare facilities, due to which a large number of poor patients have to go to Delhi and other parts of the country for treatment. In this context, there is a need setting up of an AIIMS like Institution in Tripura. Moreover, it would attract large number of patients from eastern Bangladesh which would not only be a good source of foreign exchange but also help in fostering better relations with Bangladesh.
He also held discussions on CBI probe into chit-fund scam and the brutal killings of two scribes- Sudip Datta Bhowmik and Shantanu Bhowmik. According to a government press release, the state government already sent a proposal to the Centre for taking up of investigation by CBI, in respect of murders of two journalists. The press communiqué said altogether 63 cases relating to chit fund companies in Tripura were also referred to Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India, for CBI investigation.
Besides, various other issues relating to development of the state were also discussed in the meeting. Principal Secretary to Prime Minister assured that all the above mentioned issues would be properly examined and assured that appropriate action would be taken at the earliest.
Chief Minister also called on BJP chief Amit Bhai Shah at BJP Party Headquarter in New Delhi and sought his blessings. The Chief Minister apprised the BJP chief about various development plans being initiated by the Government of Tripura and also briefed him about various cabinet decisions taken by the BJP-IPFT government during last 30 days, after taking over the charge by Biplab Kumar Deb as Chief Minister of Tripura on 9th March 2018.
