Agartala, September 12, 2019: Congress sponsored 24-hour strike in Kailasahar under Unakoti district paralysed normal life. The strike called demanding immediate arrests of miscreants who vandalized Unakoti Congress District Office at Kailasahar last month. Speaking to media, former State Congress president Birajit Sinha said, “The shutdown was total and cent percent successful against the misrule and lawlessness of BJP government”. Sinha thanked the people of Kailasahar for making the bandh ‘successful’.
Sources said, vehicles remained off the road, attendance in Offices and bank was almost nil, shops remained shut while students could not attend schools and college due to non-availability of vehicles – streets in Kailsahar virurally wore a deserted look.
Congress supporters led by Birajit Sinha and Md Badrujjaman fanned out across the town.
“There was no report of stray incident of clash in the town. The strike was largely peaceful. Many agitators were arrested for picketing in different parts of the town”, Police sources said.
TSR jawans and central para-military forces were pressed into action in and around the town.
