June 08, 2018: In an attempt to allow the differently-abled persons to access Govt schemes, a mega camp for free-of cost distribution of Aids and Appliances was held in Agartala today. Also, a rehabilitation camp for such persons was inaugurated. “The initiative of the Govt is like a ray of hope for people like me”, commented one beneficiary after accepting Appliance in the mega camp.
A mega camp for free-of-cost distribution of aids and appliances to differently-abled persons – Divyangjanas under the Aids and Appliances – ADIP scheme was held today at RS Bhawan in Agartala. Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot presided over the camp in which 2012 Divyangjan received Aids and Assistive devices. Under ADIP sacheme, total four thousand 59 such devices were distributed of worth Rs 1 crore 32 Lakh 28 thousand. In today’s programme, the Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Social welfare Minister of Tripura Santana Chakma, Joint Secretary DEPwD Dr. Prabodh Seth and Dolly Chakraborty were also present.
Besides, Biplab Deb in presence of Gehlot, Santana Chakma and other dignitaries inaugurated a Rehabilitation Centre at Narsinghgarh for Divyangjans.
Gehlot while addressing the distribution camp at RS Bhawan, detailed about policies and vision of the Modi Government. He said, following Prime Minister’s vision and directives, the Ministry is committed to perform better even though, the Ministry has made 5 entries in Guinness Records. Gehlot said, Modi-led Government has launched several welfare programs and more than 65 per cent people derived benefits of the scheme.
“While only 57 such camps were held during 1992-2013, the Modi-led Government has conducted 7000 distribution camps across the country during 2014-15, out these camps, number of mega camps stands at 321 in which 11 lakh Divyangjans received benefits of total worth Rs 600”, Gehlot said.
The Modi-led Government also stressed that benefits of education reach Divyangjans and announced several scholarship programmes at various levels of study. These scholarship programmes are benefitting around 22 thousand students. He also mentioned about new laws enacted by the Central Government for the benefit of Divyangjans.
Stressing on infusing confidence among the Divyangjans, the Chief Minister Biplab Deb said, “There are two per cent Divyangjans in our State and the State Government will work to implement the new laws enacted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment which will help Divyangjans to avail several benefits”, Deb said and added, Sugama Bharat Abhiyan will be implemented in the State to ensure easy movement of Divyangjans. “The State Government is paying Rs 400-1100 as social pensions to Divyangjans under different schemes. The State Govt will initiate action to implement pension as per new Act enacted by the Central Government.”, Deb asserted.
