June 09, 2018: Leaders of Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) today met the Chief Minister Biplab Deb and placed deputation referring to alleged attacks on GMP and Left Front activists as well as purported food crisis among the tribals. Led by GMP leader cum MP Jitendra Choudhury, delegates submitted 13-point charter of demands and expressed that new Government would work for the welfare of people of the State.
Jitendra Choudhury recently raised the issue of food crisis among the tribal people residing in remote villages. He also alleged tribals are migrating to Bangladesh in search of food as the MNREGA works have been stalled and people have no option to earn money for buying foods. However, Deputy CM cum RD Minister Jishnu Deb Varman refuted that allegations and claimed that there was no food crisis. Deputy CM also mentioned that new BJP-led Govt created more man-days in MNREGA during last two-and-half month compared to Left Front regime.
Former RD Minister Naresh Jamatia countered the claims of Jishnu Deb Varman. Amid such allegations and claims, GMP leaders today met the Chief Minister and discussed about emerging situation. Leaders urged the State Government to take actions for the welfare of the State.
