April 28, 2018: A CPIM delegation led by former Chief Minister and Opposition leader Manik Sarkar today visited deceased Rakesh Dhar’s residence at Santirbazar in South Tripura district and talked to bereaved family members. CPIM alleged that the Rakesh Dhar – a CPM activist – was hacked death on April 12 and he became the first victim of post poll violence unleashed by BJP.
Sources said, Manik Sarkar along with MLA Badal Choudhury, MP Sankar Prasad Datta and other leaders today went to SSB Camp para under Santirbazar and talked to widow of Rakesh Dhar and family members. Reiterating Party’s stand, Manik Sarkar said that CPIM would stand by the side of deceased family. Leaders condemned such act of violence.
Later speaking to media, Manik Sarkar said, popular mandate was reflected in the ballot boxes and the CPIM had accepted the result – then why there is so much violence. “A new Government is formed – it will start functioning after winning election. But why there is so much bloodshed, why winning party supporters are attacking houses, burning down properties of Left party supporters”, said an agitated Manik Sarkar.
He also said, the Party will raise the issue at the proper level and urged people to restrain and avert violence.
