May 16, 2018: During a midnight surprise visit, State Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman found the staffs including doctors of GB Hopsital in Agartala totally off-guard. His visit established that medical staffs and doctors seriously lack sense of responsibility and accountability. One doctor who was on night duty at the Central Lab was found not physically present in the Hospital premises. Roy Barman asked him over phone to reach Hospital at the earliest.
Sources said, Sudip Roy Barman made a surprise visit to Govt run GB Hospital last night. During his visit, irregularities and lapses of medical staffs and doctors were exposed. He found patient lying on floor. Displeased at the prevailing conditions he visited the Central Lab only to be displeased further.
Irked at prevailing condition, Roy Barman inquired about the doctor on night duty at the Laboratory. But the concerned doctor Dr A Bhowmik was found enjoying night at his home instead of discharging his night duty at the Hospital. Dr Bhowmik was supposed to sign on the diagnostic reports. It will be imprudent to assume that his juniors will be dutiful and as a result patients fall victim to erroneous diagnostic reports, sources alleged.
In the Central Lab, the concerned person who was supposed to sign on diagnostic reports was not present in the lab. The Minister himself made a call to the concerned person and asked where he is now. Caught red handed, the concerned person replied that he was at home. Roy Barman asked him to immediately report to Central Lab. He also found irregularities in preparing blood reports.
The BJP-led Government in Tripura is trying to improve deplorable health service conditions in the State and focused on the main Hospital GB Hospital in Agartala. The Chief Minister also visited the Hospital and said that stern actions would be taken against erring staffs and doctors. However, reports suggest that lethargic attitude of the medical staffs and doctors are yet to improve despite Government’s warning. Last night Sudip Roy Barman witnessed pathetic condition of GB Hospital and irresponsibility of medical staffs and doctors was palpable.
