Agartala, September 25, 2019: In a shocking incident one housewife was allegedly gang raped last night. City police today took prompt action in an alleged case of gangrape of a housewife- four persons were arrested till the last information came in. As the news spread, it immediately cast a gloom among the people. Condemnation poured in from all sections of the society and civic society are raising voice for a quick and stern punitive actions against the accused persons.
The victim lodged an FIR at A.D. Nagar police against 10 persons alleging that she was brutally gang-raped by them in an undisclosed location last night.
According to the complaint, the housewife, a tenant of A.D. Nagar area, was first trapped by an auto driver near GBP hospital and then she was taken to an unknown location where altogether ten persons had committed the barbaric act.
The victim stated in the FIR that she was left near Circuit House and later rescued by her brother-in-law. The victim
underwent medical tests after the FIR was filed. She is now hospitalized. Based on the FIR, police immediately swung into action and succeeded to arrest four culprits (all of them are auto/ tomtom drivers) till filing of the news.
Meanwhile, opposition Leader Manik Sarkar and women leaders from various political wings including BJP Mahila
Morcha visited the victim in the hospital today. They all demanded immediate arrests of the culprits and stern action
against them. The case is now being investigated by the East Agartala women police.
In her reaction, MP Pratima Bhowmik also took tough stand in the incident and demanded action against the accused persons. State president of Mahila Morcha of BJP, Papiya Datta too condemned the incident and demanded exemplary actions.
In the meantime, senior police officials held an urgent meeting at East Agartala police station over the incident.
However, police denied disclosing any input relating to the arrestees for the sake of further investigation.
