Tripura Pradesh BJP reacted sharply over the demand for President’s rule in the State as raised by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and lashed out at Roy Barman for falsely undermining development of the State.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters, Tripura ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury breathed fire at Congress and dubbed the Congress party and President’s Rule as ‘synonymous’.
The Minister said, “When the communist party was in power in the state for 25 years, Sudip Babu frequently used to say that ‘a reign of terror has been let loose by the party in power’. He is saying the same thing today as well. However, during the communist rule, they never went to Delhi to demand President’s Rule. But, now he is demanding the President’s Rule to tarnish the state’s image the way he made attempts while in BJP.”
Chowdhury continued to fire verbal salvo and said, the demand for President’s Rule is nothing new to Congress, the party had handed over the state to CPI-M through the President’s Rule in 1993 when Narasima Rao was the Prime Minister.
“The Congress brought Communist to power with backdoor support through the President’s Rule in 1993. Now, again Congress has taken the responsibility so that the communists can be brought to power in the next assembly polls,” Chowdhury said.
He, however exuded confidence and said people of Tripura are ready to give a befitting reply to the political understanding of the CPI-M and Congress in the next assembly polls.
He rubbished the claim of the Congress on crime against women in Tripura and said the state topped the table for crime against women as per the NCB report during the previous Left regime.
Earlier the rate of conviction was less in left rule since the accused persons used to get acquitted by using police, however, now the scenario is opposite.
BJP state spokesman Nabendu Bhattacharjee was also present in the press conference.
In reply to query on attack at the house one Congress worker – Keshab Sarkar at Majlishpur which is under his constituency, Sushanta Chowdhury said the victim lodged a complaint against around 30 BJP Karyakartas, however, there is no prima facie evidence suggesting involvement of BJP supporters. Police are investigating the case.
