January 21, 2018: He will not be cremated, but his ‘body’ will be donated on Monday to State Medical College for the sake of mankind. Chairman of Tripura Left Front Khagen Das expired at 3.35am at Tripura Bhavan, Pritoria Street in Kolkata. Sudden demise of the leader shocked the political fraternity in Agartala and in general, pall of gloom descended among the people.
Sources said, at the early hours of Sunday (3.35am) Das breathed his last and his mortal remains will be flown to Agartala from Kolkata today evening. From Agartala Airport his mortal remains will be taken to the State Assembly State secretariat and at his residence. Later in the evening his mortal remains will be taken to CPIM Party Office in Agartala and will be kept at Sadar Sub-division Party Office till tomorrow. Sources said, mortal remains of Das will be handed over to State Medical College as Das earlier took oath to donate his ‘body’ after death.
Khagen Das was elected to State Assembly from Majlishpur in 1978 and 1983. He was a member of Rajya Sabha during 1998-2002. Since 2002 he represented Tripura in Lok Sabha till 2014.
