December 27, 2017: Raising slogans for recovering education from religious obscurantism, CPIM and Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) today observed 73rd ‘Jana Shiksha Day’ across the State. On this day in 1945, ‘Tripura Jana Shiksha Samity’ was formed at Durga Chaudhuri Para in Khowai. The Samity envisaged making education accessible to marginalized people, especially among the tribal communities.
CPIM State party secretary hoisted ‘Red Flag’ at the Party Office in Agartala to commemorate the day and paid tributes ro to Communist stalwarts of yester years – Bidya Debbarma, Sudhanyo Debbarma, Dasharath Deb and other persons. Tribal wing of CPIM – GMP also observed the Day at Krishnagar and MP Jitendra Choudhury urged people to continue struggle to achieve ‘Education for all’ and resist attempt to privatize the education system. He also criticized the Central Government’s plan to privatize the education sector.
Later in the evening, Bijan Dhar addressed a Hall Sabha at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala. In his speech, Dhar said, CPIM stresses on pluralistic and multi culture society which enhances bond between different communities. He alleged, in contrary, BJP is attempting to posit mono-culture. “Leaders of Jana Shiksha Samity worked to improve bonding between tribal and non-tribal people and CPM-led Government is carrying forward the ideals of the Samiti”.
In one after another verbal salvo, Bijan Dhar slammed the Central Government on issues ranging from economic policies, education policies and socio-political issues. Referring to ‘alternative form of governance’, Dhar flayed the Central Government for slashing budgets on social expenditures. The Day was observed at all parts of the State and large number of Left activists took part in rallies and public meetings, Party sources said.
