June 21, 2018: In a guarded response, former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition, Manik Sarkar welcomed some measures and at the same time criticized other measures.
Taking part in discussion today at Assembly on the Budget tabled on June 19, Manik Sarkar appreciated 10 per cent job reservation for women in Police. He also welcomed proposal to identify distress para and provide free ration.
However, expressing his reservations about private players, Sarkar said that proposed Tripura Infrastructure and investment Fund Board would not cater needs and interests of people of the State. Continuing his tirade, Sarkar criticized Govt’s decision on levying cess and allocations for welfare MNREGA.
Sarkar said that this would increase the already burdened people’s economic miseries. Referring to funds proposed for rural sector, Sarkar also demanded increase of allocation in agriculture, rural development, rural jobs besides person days in MNREGA.
