Agartala, April 25, 2019: In yet another incidence, medical staff including a pregnant nurse were assaulted in a Primary Health Centre in North Tripura at the wee hours of Thursday. Earlier, on April 11 last, one doctor of IGM Hospital in Agartala was brutally assaulted by miscreants triggering massive protests by medical professionals. However, another mindless attack on a doctor, nurse and two other medical staff, once again, showed vulnerability of medical personnel.
Sources said, medical staff of Shanichhera Primary Health Centre in North Tripura district came under attack last night. A relative of a patient, Parikshit Sinha – reportedly in inebriated condition – got himself involved in altercation with on-duty nurse – Nasima Begum who is three-month pregnant.
During arguments, Sinha suddenly started assaulting the nurse. As two other medical staffs – Dangsurai Halam and Bhoma Halam – came to rescue Nasima, infuriated Sinha assaulted the duo. Meanwhile, in-charge doctor Biswabandhu Debnath intervened and he was too physically assaulted. Nasima alleged, Sinha hit in her abdomen and other parts of the body leaving physically wounded and mentally affected.
Police from Churaibari PS rushed to PHC and brought the situation under control, however, the accused person managed to give Police a slip. Protesting the assault and demanding immediate arrest of Parikshit Sinha, medical staff have suspended admitting patients in the PHC.
