December 20, 2017: Pointing out to an avenue for job creation in Tripura and other North Eastern States, CPIM MP from Tripura Jitendra Choudhury today raised demand in Lok Sabha for formulation of a national policy on Bamboo and allied industries in Tripura.
Strongly batting for growth of bamboo sector in the State, Jitendra Choudhury said, NE States including Tripura contribute around 55 per cent of total Bamboo produced in the country. Moreover, this region produce 11 varies of Bamboo of high quality for which production cost is minimum most. “It is unfortunate that successive Union Governments have failed to come up with any concrete policy which would facilitates growth of Bamboo based industry and address the unemployment issue in the region effectively”, he said.
Saying that Central Government’s outlook for the development of bamboo sector is not adequate, Choudhury said, the Government has taken a slew of measures like National Bamboo Mission which are not sufficient enough to boost bamboo cultivation. It is necessary that Government formulate a specific and target oriented national policy aiming to ensure creation of jobs.
He also demanded easy loans and Government’s assistance in setting up Bamboo industries by young entrepreneurs. Stressing on intensive research works on Bamboo cultivation and industry, Choudhury urged the Government to impose import duty on Bamboo products for restricting import.
