May 20, 2018: One more person died due to mud-slide while more than 60 families were forced to take shelter in relief camps after another round of incessant rains today. A heavy rain lashed out at several parts of the State at the early hours of Sunday.
Nature Goddess seems to be furious and leaving a long trail of devastation in Tripura. Battered people are facing almost regularly nature’s fury. Pre-moon storm followed by heavy torrential rains caused several deaths. Thunderbolt, landslide after incessant downpour, uprooted tree, collapse of own house – people of Tripura almost all forms of death due to natural calamity in recent times.
Today, one woman Bishuham Rupini died from mud-slide while her husband Bhaktynarayan Rupini sustained injuries. The latter is undergoing treatment in GB Hospital. The incidence took place Borduar area of Champabari village under Jirania in West Tripura district. Meanwhile, families residing along the bank of the Haora River at Pratapgarh in Agartala had to take refuse in nearby school after water level in the River rose and flooded the houses. Sources said, more than 60 families were marooned and took shelter in relief camp.
Nature’s fury, even before Monsoon season starts has already caused massive damage to human life, properties and crops. Farm-lands in several areas remain inundated.
In Agartala and neighbouring areas, normal life and activities were affected due to flood like situations. Large area in Agartala faced severe water logging successively during last week. (With Inputs from Prasenjit Chakraborty of Tripura Times)
