Golf ecosystem to Transform State Economy: Boost in eco-tourism, craft exports expected
Agartala Dec 7: Tripura’s newly developing golf ecosystem is not only about fairways, greens and competitive tournaments, officials now believe it may reshape the state’s employment patterns by opening new career paths for young professionals, while simultaneously pushing indigenous crafts into international tourism circuits.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha while inaugurating the Bharat Golf Mahotsav. The event was organised by the Golf Federation of India in association with the Border Security Force (BSF) at Shalbagan.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saha emphasised that the state government is planning long-term infrastructure upgrades to mainstream golf in Tripura.
The Tripura Open, under the GFI 2025 tour, is currently underway at the BSF Tripura Frontier headquarters’ golf course in Salbagan near Agartala.
He added that the initiative will generate employment for young people.
According to the Chief Minister, building a golf course and introducing the sport in full scale will significantly boost eco-tourism in Tripura.
Inspector General (IG) Aloke Kumar Chakraborty of BSF Tripura Frontier noted that Tripura’s natural landscape is highly favourable for golf.
He further observed that the development of golf courses in different cities across India has triggered a sharp rise in real estate values.
Chakraborty emphasized that since golf is a premium tourism activity, it holds vast potential to enhance the hospitality sector, improve transport facilities and elevate the indigenous handicrafts market.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by the BSF Tripura Frontier IG and Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, also inspected the expansive golf course.

The General Secretary added that the Bharat Golf Mahotsav is a countrywide initiative by the GFI to promote unity through golf, sustainability, education and social welfare activities across 100 cities, including tournaments, tree-planting drives, marathons and campaigns supporting ‘Make in India’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’.
