Fast-track Reconductoring for Grid Stability: NERPC urges TSECL
Agartala, Dec 4: The ongoing reconductoring project under Tripura Power Transmission Limited has emerged as a key priority issue in strengthening the state grid, senior officials observed during a tech-review meeting held in Agartala on Thursday.
The session, held at the TSECL headquarters, brought together top officials from the North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC), North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NERLDC) and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). The visiting delegation was led by NERPC Member-Secretary K B Jagtap and NERLDC Chief Sajan George, who reviewed transmission performance with TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu and Technical Director Dr Subir Sen.
Officials emphasised the need to accelerate reconductoring to reduce vulnerabilities in transmission lines, increase load capacity and prevent potential outages. They noted that the timely completion of the project is crucial for improving the reliability of Tripura’s grid and ensuring uninterrupted supply to consumers.
The representatives affirmed that NERPC would provide full assistance to TSECL to ensure consumer-friendly electricity services across the state. They emphasised that joint planning in infrastructure development and upkeep could significantly strengthen grid performance and dependability.
The Regional Power Committee framework was established under the Electricity Act, 2003 to enhance regional coordination in grid management, power transfer, and system steadiness.

Each RPC is led by a Member-Secretary appointed by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and is mandated to undertake technical assessments, plan transmission systems, schedule maintenance, regulate voltage levels, and improve operational outcomes.
Key functions of RPCs include enabling interstate power movement, carrying out system operation and protection studies, and preparing monthly and annual maintenance schedules for regional power infrastructure.
The body also plays an important role in decisions relating to grid operations, load scheduling, transmission tariffs, and energy accounting. As the meeting concluded, both organisations agreed to sustain close coordination for future expansion and technological enhancement. They shared optimism that improved collaboration would strengthen Tripura’s power framework and deliver more consistent and efficient electricity to consumers.
