Two separate road accidents in Tripura leave three dead, court employee critically injured
Agartala, Dec 3 — Tripura witnessed at least two major road accidents leaving three persons dead in Jolaibari and one court employee seriously injured in Kailashahar.
Unabated road mishaps has raised fresh concerns over traffic regulation and road safety in the state.
In the first incident, three youths were killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles on the Jolaibari–Belonia alternative National Highway in Jolaibari Colony area in South Tripura district.
The accident took place around 3:35 pm on Wednesday when two bikes—bearing registration numbers TR 08 E 7407 and TR 03 E 7300—crashed into each other.
The impact was so severe that two riders from one motorcycle and one from the other were flung onto the road, dying instantly.
The deceased were identified as Priyanshu Dutta (29), Mukesh Tripura and Biplab Shil Sharma.
Fire service personnel from Jolaibari and Baikhora police reached the spot immediately after being informed. The bodies were recovered and sent to Jolaibari Community Health Centre for post-mortem.
Baikhora police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
In another accident earlier today, a court employee in Kailashahar was critically injured inside the court premises around 10 am when a speeding auto rickshaw rammed into a Bajaj Discover motorcycle near the Town Hall, just adjacent to the courthouse.
The injured rider, identified as Shusendra Das, was rushed to Unakoti District Hospital by fellow court staff and later admitted due to multiple injuries. The auto driver initially fled but later turned himself in when police arrived.
Kailashahar police seized both vehicles—an auto (TRO6A2126) and the motorcycle (TR02B7898)—as part of the investigation. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bipul Das visited the spot soon after the incident.
Court employees alleged that repeated mishaps are occurring in busy office area due to the absence of a permanent traffic point in the area. Local people said, in a similar incident on December 2 when a speeding vehicle reportedly hit a judge’s car and fled.
The twin incidents have yet again highlighted the growing issue of reckless driving and inadequate traffic control in several parts of Tripura. Authorities are investigating both cases further.
