State Aiming to Build a Strong Sports Ecosystem: Dr Manik Saha

Agartala, Dec 3: Tripura is steadily shaping a long-term, structured roadmap to strengthen its sports ecosystem, with the state government placing renewed emphasis on expanding infrastructure, promoting grassroots talent and fostering a culture of athletic excellence.

This future-focused approach was underscored by Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha while addressing a felicitation ceremony on December 2 for newly inducted lifetime members of the Tripura Football Association (TFA) in Agartala on Monday.

The Chief Minister said Tripura’s transformation in the sports sector is no longer limited to isolated achievements, but is part of a broader governmental commitment to building a sustainable and inclusive sports environment.

He noted that Tripura has now secured a noticeable position in the national sports landscape, a development that has also been recognised by athletes visiting from outside the state.

Highlighting the government’s long-term aspirations, Dr. Saha said the state is simultaneously upgrading football infrastructure and strengthening talent pipelines.

Construction of synthetic turfs, organisation of day–night matches and expansion of training facilities are part of a wider strategy to create opportunities for young athletes across rural, urban and tribal belts.

The Chief Minister stressed that the future of Tripura’s sporting success depends on disciplined practice, resilience and a robust support system for emerging sportspersons.

He reaffirmed that the government will continue to stand beside promising athletes, providing assistance through multiple flagship schemes such as the Chief Minister’s Sports Development Project, the Sports Talent Hunt and the Sports Excellence Scheme.

He also acknowledged the role of TFA in advancing football in the state, noting that the association’s proactive efforts align with the government’s long-term vision for sports-led growth.

Dr. Saha added that sports not only builds healthy communities but also steers young people away from addiction, making it a vital component of the state’s social development strategy.

The event was attended by Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, TFA President Pranab Sarkar and patron Ratan Saha.
