Tripura Police handed over a minor girl who had eloped with her lover – to her parents at Baldakhal near Agartala on Monday. She was brought to her residence from a shelter home at Dimapur in Nagaland. Even as family members of the girl alleged the she was kidnapped, it appeared that she had eloped with her lover with her consent.
The minor girl and her lover managed to flee from Tripura and went to Dimapur in Nagaland. However, Nagaland Police spotted the girl and her lover and detained them.
A specific complaint was lodged with the Bodhjungnagar police station ten to twelve days back where the parents of the minor girl complained that their daughter had been kidnapped from their Baldakhal residence by a boy who stays in the same locality. Sources later reveal that the girl went out with her own consent with the boy as they were in love. She eloped with the boy one fine night and crossed state borders.
Officer in-charge of Budhjhung Nagar police station, Tapas Malakar said, “We got the complaint ten to twelve days back when parents of the girl lodged an FIR with a boy. Later, we have communicated with all the police stations of Tripura. We came to know that the eloped couple crossed Tripura borders and went to Nagaland”.
After some days, the OC said, a police station of Dimapur contacted his police station and shared the details of the couple. After detaining the couple, Nagaland police shifted the minor girl to a shelter home and arrested the boy. After communication, she had been brought to the state on Sunday and subsequently handed over to the parents of the girl. The accused person would be brought back to Tripura after his jail term ended in Dimapur, he said.
According to him, the boy was awarded a punishment by Nagaland Court for kidnapping the girl.
