CPM leaders accused ruling BJP of trying to throttle the voice of the Opposition parties as well as blamed Police for its inaction against Covid norm violations by ruling party leaders in Agartala on Moday.
Notably, CPM supporters led by wife of Opposition leader Manik Sarkar, Panchali Bhattacharjee were arrested before they could start a protest rally from CPM Party office at Melarmath in Agartala today. The rally was organized to protest against unabated petro price hike, unemployment and Covid related relief etc.
“The ruling BJP-led Government is in no mood to listen to demands of opposition parties. The ruling party is trying to throttle democracy and silence the Opposition parties”, Bhattacharjee alleged.
Continuing her verbal tirade against the ruling party, she also referred to Covid norms and guidelines and slammed the government.
She said, “It appears that Covid norms and guidelines are applicable only for the Opposition parties whereas ruling party leaders and Ministers are beyond the ambit of Covid norms. Ruling party held several programmes recently – and Police remained mum and never raised the issue of Covid protocol violation against any of the ruling party leaders.”
However, she commented that with lathi wielding Police force, BJP will not be able to stop the CPM from raising voices for the sake of common people.
Bhattacharjee also criticized the Police inaction against the ruling party leaders and supporters for rampant violation of Covid norms. She also said, Police arrested at least 15-20 CPM leaders and supporters to prevent holding today’s protest rally against price rise and other such issues.
She said price hike etc are not affecting a particular group of community of people rather all sections of the society are facing a tough situation owing the price rise.
