Unpleasant situation was created after one SPO jawan reportedly thrashed one small trader and his son while enforcing Corona Curfew at Rajkandi under Fatikroy in Tripura. As per Corona Curfew guidelines, all shops and trading activities in markets must stop within 2pm. However, the SPO started kicking father and son at least 15 minutes before the Corona curfew deadline, traders alleged

Sunday is the weekly haatbar at Rajkandi area. As usual, like other traders, Khitendra Debnath was also preparing to shut his shop at around 1.45pm and leave the market within 2pm.

As Debnath was making final arrangement for closing the shop, one SPO jawan came in front of Debnath’s shop and the SPO jawan took a photo of the shop. Later, the jawan got involved in arguments with Khitendra Debnath over closure of the shop.

Debnath tried his best to convince the jawan that he would shut the shop within stipulated time and leave the market.

“I told him that it was only 1.45pm and I will leave the market before 2pm. However, the jawan was in no mood to listen to me and he kicked me. As a result, I fell on the ground”, Khitendra Debnath alleged.

Meanwhile, Arup Debnath son of Khitendra Debnath went up to the SPO and wanted to know as to why the jawan had kicked his elderly father.

Reacting to Arup’s query, the jawan kicked him and hit his head with a stick. This left Arup with injuries. Seeing the jawan creating trouble, one Police came up and took away the SPO from the spot, local traders said.

The action of the SPO created strong resentment among the local traders. They vented anger against errant SPO and demanded action.
